FAQ

How does the Frank Hollinger contract work?

1. Schedule your free measurement & estimate; select a product to receive an accurate quote.

2. Place your 50% deposit for order- shipment delivery is typically 3-5 business days.

3. You will be contacted when your product is received at warehouse; at this time you will schedule your installation (and delivery of product if acclimation applicable)

4. Balance due upon completion.

Install Sheet Vinyl?

No, our company does not install sheet vinyl, nor do we have samples of sheet vinyl to show you. However, if you need a particular Shaw or Armstrong sheet vinyl, we can place an order for you.

Can I order product only?

Yes, you can purchase product through our company; please note: you will accrue manufacturer's freight charge on your invoice & you will be responsible for collecting your product at our local warehouse.

How long does it take to get my order in?

Your product will be delivered within 3-5 business days, assuming it isn't backordered due to production or shipping delays.

What are your delivery options?

Your product will be delivered directly to our local warehouse, where it will be stored until a) install date, b) delivery for 24hr acclimation period, or c) customer pick up of product.

How do I return an item?

You will be required to pay the 25% restock fee implemented by the distributor, as well as any shipping & handling fees.

What is your return policy?

We will accept "buyers' remorse" returns so long as manufacturer/distributor agrees to restocking unopened item; if product was over ordered/over-measured, our company will be responsible for all restock/shipping fees affiliated with return, in which event we apologize for the miscalculation on our part.

How do I track my order?

We will track your order for you. Please call our main location for further information on your pending shipment.

Do you do weekend appointments?

We will continue to work into a weekend, but we typically do not begin installations on the weekends.

We will come to your house for a free measurement & estimate on alternating Saturday Mornings if you're unavailable throughout the week days.

Can you give me a ballpark price?

Of course, we can, but understand that it will only be accurate when we measure the area of installation & when you've made a product selection.

Why do you need to add "waste" to my net measurement?

Flooring products require cuts when installed along the perimeter of your room- waste percentage is vital in ordering the correct amount of product necessary to complete your installation, otherwise our installers would run short and we would have to order more product, causing our installers to lose time on job sites, and our customers to add time to their overall completion date.

Do you do REPAIR jobs or small jobs (floor 20sf or less)?

No, our installers do not. We apologize for the inconvenience.

----FAQ CONT'D
How long does the installation take?

The length of an install will depend on how square the room is.

Carpet removal is very fast, whereas tile and hardwood take up is dependent on the thinset or adhesive used to secure the flooring in place.

Installation design (such as herringbone pattern for hardwood or versai for tile) customization will lengthen the installation time frame. Customization requires attention to detail and precision cuts.

Typically, our hardwood crew can install 400-600sf per day.

Typically, our tile crew can install 200-400sf per day (floor applications).

Tile is a 2 day process independent of square footage,

Day 1 is to spread thinset and set tiles. Tile will sit and thinset will cure.

Day 2 is for grout dispersal, which keeps tiles locked in place.

Can you install product purchased elsewhere?

Of course, we can. We will do whatever is convenient for you.

How small can I get my grout joint?

We can get your grout joint as small as 1/8"/3mm. This is ideal for wood-look tile installation, aiding in the appearence of aesthetic detail of spacing between natural hardwood boards' endjoints. Typically, we will match the darkest tone present in your tile for the grout to create the depth/shading effect.

What size wood-look planks are there?

We have sample products with widths in 4, 6, 7 & 8 inches and lengths in 24, 36, 48, and 60 inches.

Can you install new flooring over my existing tile or hardwood?

We do not install new flooring over existing flooring, so as to prevent future locking system breakage/tile peaking/telegraphing, etc. If you are attempting to save money, we suggest looking into LVP collections designed and graded to install Over existing floor. Please visit our LVP page to see available products: click here!
What is Rectified Tile?

Rectified tile is precision cut quality control during the manufacturing process to confirm every tile is uniform in size- this ensures tiles can be installed with an 1/8" grout joint, one of the thinnest in the industry, ideal for wood-look plank tiles.

However, rectified tile is coined marketing of the manufacturing process, but unrectified will typically only vary in size from different production dyelots - you should be fine so long as your product (total square footage) comes from the same production lot.

Rectified should not be the ultimate factor in deciding which tile product to select, unless you are installing the product yourself and want the simplest install process. Master installers can work with minor imperfections by implementing precision cuts. Beware of bulk stock plank tiles, which are typically sold low to big box companies due to low grade production, resulting in heavily bowed and severely un-uniform plank tiles, which can not be aesthetically hidden even by the best tile pros in the industry.

How long does the installation take?

The length of an install will depend on how square the room is.

Existing flooring removal can deter your total completion time frame. Carpet removal is very fast, whereas tile and hardwood take up is dependent on the thinset/adhesive used to secure the flooring in place.

Installation design (such as herringbone pattern for hardwood or versai for tile) customization will lengthen the installation time frame. Customization requires attention to detail and precision cuts.

Typically, our tile crew can install 200-400 square feet per day (floor applications).

Tile is a 2 day process independent of square footage,

Day 1 is to spread thinset and set tiles. Tile will sit and thinset will cure.

Day 2 is for grout dispersal, which keeps tiles locked in place.

What tile installation patterns are available?

There are various styles, all at different labor rates, which we can explain in detail as they pertain to your tile product selection. A few basic patterns are: standard, diagonal, staggered, brick; & a few more advanced patterns are herringbone, versai, basketweave, ...
Please see the diagrams at the bottom of this webpage for more pattern design ideas.

Hardwood

What is an "acclimation" period?

Both hardwood (engineered & solid) and laminate are wood products- wood inherently expands and contracts in relation to the climate it is housed in. You can envision this as wood sucking up the moisture in the air like a spunge, or excreting the moisture as humidity levels decrease. This is natural for the fibers of wood, whether it is the species intself or the composite backing of a laminate product. Acclimation is when a product adjusts structurally to the temperate and climate of your home, otherwise the product will not install correctly; without acclimation the product with begin to buckle once it is acclimated, causing the product to virtually uninstall itself, causing breaking in the locking system and integrity of the floor.

What is an "engineered hardwood"? Is it real hardwood?

Engineered hardwood flooring is the ideal hardwood product for installation in tropical environments where humidity levels are higher.

The enhanced structural ability of engineered hardwood flooring allows for installation in all levels of your home and minimizes the natural expansion and contraction of hardwood, which inevitably happens in tropical/high humidity environments.

Engineered hardwood is ultimately a more viable product for Florida than the traditional solid hardwood flooring.

Please visit this Shaw website link for detailed information:

https://shawfloors.com/flooring/how-to/hardwood/how-it-s-made/solid-vs-engineered-hardwood

It is Not a waterproof product, but is typically treated to resist absorption; however, it can not resist submersion. All homeowners should be aware of potential flooding, whether it be of natural disasters or a simple dishwasher leak.

We do not recommend hardwood installation in any wet areas of your home (i.e. bathrooms, foyers, kitchens, laundry, etc.)

Will you still install Solid hardwood in my home?

Yes, of course, we will. We understand individual tastes and couldn't be happier to meet your desired designs; afterall, it is Your home and Your Flooring Investment.

Will my hardwood scratch?

All hardwood products are liable to indentations, such as scratches or gauges. Hardwood is measured in durability by a pressure test known as the Janka Rating Scale. Softer hardwoods require less pressure (or weight) before an indentation is made.

Please visit this Mirage url for more specific information to give you a better idea of individual species' susceptabilities to scratching.

http://www.miragefloors.com/ENG/flooring-101/species/

Softer species (i.e. birch, oaks, walnuts) will likely by scratched by small pets- these products are typically at lower costs in comparison to the more durable hardwood species.

Do I need an expansion gap?

Hardwood naturally expands and contracts to the changing climate; an expansion gap is vital to give the hardwood "room to breathe", or else your hardwood will virtually uninstall itself.

Laminate

What is an "acclimation" period?

Both hardwood (engineered & solid) and laminate are wood products- wood inherently expands and contracts in relation to the climate it is housed in. You can envision this as wood sucking up the moisture in the air like a spunge, or excreting the moisture as humidity levels decrease. This is natural for the fibers of wood, whether it is the species intself or the composite backing of a laminate product. Acclimation is when a product adjusts structurally to the temperate and climate of your home, otherwise the product will not install correctly; without acclimation the product will begin to buckle once it is acclimated, causing the product to virtually uninstall itself, resulting in breakage of the locking system and the inevitable demise of the integrity of the floor.

What is laminate?

Laminate flooring is a great option for low budget products because of it's luxurious visuals and the action of expensive exotic hardwood durability.

Laminate flooring is constructed in layers. The bottom layer is the "backing". It's designed to resist moisture that could cause boards to warp.

Above the backing is the inner core. The core is made from high-density fiberboard that is reinforced with a special resin to further enhance moisture resistance and increase durability.

Next is the image design layer. This is where the high-resolution image of wood, stone, metal, or other material appears. This is where the texture is sometimes applied to enhance its realistic appeal.

The top layer is the wear layer. This layer protects the design from fading, scratches, and damage from everyday wear and tear.

It is Not a waterproof product, but some products are treated to resist moisture absorption; it can Not resist submersion. We do not recommend laminate installation in any wet areas of your home (i.e. bathrooms, foyers, kitchens, laundry, etc.)

Luxury Vinyl Planks

What is an "acclimation" period?

Hardwood, laminate, and some luxury vinyl planks are required to acclimate to the temperature of your property for 48 hours prior to installation. Acclimation is when a product adjusts structurally to the temperate and climate of your home, otherwise the product will not install correctly; without acclimation the product with begin to buckle once it is acclimated, causing the product to virtually uninstall itself, resulting in breaking of the locking system and integrity of the floor.

What is LVP?
LVP is an abbreviation for Luxury Vinyl Planks. LVT stands for Luxury Vinyl Tiles.

Do you install an LVT with or without grout?

It depends on the product selection. One particular collection has both installation options. Please come in today and ask to see Armstrong Alterna samples, or visit this link: http://www.armstrong.com/flooring/alterna.asp

Is LVP 100% Waterproof?

Some LVP are waterproof products, while some products are just treated to resist moisture absorption & can Not resist submersion.

Is all LVP the same?

No, every product collection is different. Please keep this in mind when purchasing your LVP product. Many companies will say they are compatible with leading 100% waterproof products, but they actually have very profound differences.

Can I Install Over Existing Hardsurfaces?

Yes, you can often install this product over imperfect substrates or existing hard surfaces, which makes it ideal for those who want to save money on take up, or those who prefer not to deal with the mess of tile take up.

We recommend installing LVP/LVT products in any area of your home, especially wet areas.

Carpet

Why do you need to order more than my room's square footage?

Your room is likely small in width, where carpet is typically manufactured and released in 12 foot widths. Carpet manufacturers will cut lengths, not widths. We will try to elimate as much waste as possible by diagraming different cuts of the piece of carpet we order, using these cuts in small areas such as halls and closets.

Will a pad upgrade increase cushion under my feet?

Your carpet will suffer if your pad is too thick (12lb) - more cushion means more flexibility to the carpet backing, equating to a break down of the backing when the cushion is too thick and pliable. Upgrading from 6lb to 8lb will not noticeably increase the feel of cushion, but will typically extend the life of your carpet's warranty. Upgrading more than the 8 to say a 12, could have damaging effects, although it will feel pillowed.

We recommend an 8lb under Berber products because they require the support.

We recommend "petproof" padding for pet owners or families with children- this eliminates soil resurfacing when spot cleaning.

Do you sell a product for people who suffer from allergies?

Beaulieu offers a product made exclusively for you! Visit their site to find out more! Click here!

Why is my carpet on back order?

Your carpet is most likely undergoing the manufacturing process, which is a very meticulous process used with the companies we purchase from. These companies pride themselves in quality control. These companies' products are also in high demand, so sometimes products are sold out of stock, thus the need for manufacturing. We ask that you please be patient.

Why do I need a seam?

Your carpet is not wide enough to stretch the width (or sometimes length dependent on running direction), so a seam has to be utilized to connect two cuts of your carpet.

What is a pattern repeat?

Your carpet displays a design which ultimately repeats. We will need to match up the design when seaming together cuts of carpet. This could potentially increase the waste of your carpet purchase.

Why is my carpet buckling/rising?

Your carpet is most likely exposed to extreme conditions of climate (a/c on during the summer, off with windows open during the fall), or the temperate in your property just Isn't consistant, causing the carpet's backing to either expand with heat, or tighten and shrink under cool conditions. Please keep this in mind if you're an owner of a summer home, or renting a property to tenants.
